I’m a little jelly. This came into the shop for leather and heated seats.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I sent these pictures to my wife and she said “pay off student loans and we’ll see.”

My manager - the one I like - is on the phone with sales at the dealer that sent it to us.

14 R/T with 6-speed, 11k miles. One owner. $27k.

I’m surprised that heated seats wouldn’t just be cheaper to get as an option vs going after market.

I’m so conflicted about these. I really want to not like them...but I totally like them. I’d rock an R/T with a stick.

So the seats are going to be swapped out? How does this work?

They probably came with a $5,000 upgrade package and an automatic.

Can’t you get a new 2015 R/T for not much more?

You’re probably right.

Exactly. The only option I actually wanted between the BRZ Premium and Limited was heated seats, and that alone wasn’t worth the $2,000 price tag. I’m almost done installing a $50 heated seat kit I bought off Amazon.

How difficult is that aftermarket kit?

Strip off cloth, attach heaters, attach seat covers,

Then wait a week or two for leather shrinkage to give it the factory look. But drive in the meantime.

Yet another reason to order precisely the car you want ... but it keeps you employed.

Yup. This one’s right across the street and it’s a better color, with the improved ‘15 interior. And houndstooth cloth is better than plain black leather in my opinion..

And the color. Oh that blue is perfect.

The vast majority of our business comes from Honda and Nissan dealers because of their trim level structure. Like if you want a manual Accord with leather and heated seats, you have to get a two-door V6 model. Or if you want leather but not a sunroof, you’re out of luck unless you go aftermarket.

Yeah, I’m not really a Mopar guy, but my gosh, I would give a kidney for a newish V8 Challenger in a good color. For some reason that body just speaks to me.

I’m doing a full write-up and review for Right Foot Down (which I’ll repost here), but to summarize, not bad. The product description says “IT IS FOR SOMEONE WITH ADVANCED INSTALLATION SKILLS!” caps and all, but I’d rate it as an intermediate job. Instructions are extremely limited, but it’s a generic kit and poorly translated. Hog rings are a pain, but once they’re out I replace them with zip-ties. The kit includes a complete wiring harness with fuses, relays, and switches. The BRZ already has separate fuses for heated seats, so I tap those for power. Right now I’m in the middle of diagnosing why the driver’s side keeps blowing fuses. I plugged the passenger side wiring into the driver’s seat this morning and it works fine, which means the problem is in the harness somewhere. I need to pick up more fuses and narrow it down further before I can say whether it’s a manufacturing defect or my error.

These things need to stop holding their value. Don’t people know its a Dodge on a 20 year old Mercedes platform?

If it were Plum Crazy, that’s how I’d spec my sub-30k Challenger.

I often wonder why some manufacturers make the choices they make. Can’t get a sunroof with base trim, can’t have a stick in a sedan, just a 2 door. On a modern production line, it’s easy to build to order.

Out of curiosity, what does an aftermarket leather interior run, all in with install? I’ve been considering going this route for my next car, if I end up doing another Mustang.

Not that I’m likely to find a shop in lower Delaware that can do it anyway, but, just in case, it would be nice to know.

At our shop a single color is 899+ tax. So 965. If it has to be sewn up special then options are $50 each - 2 tone, contrast stitch, perforation etc. they sell our leather at Costco actually. You may have to go to Salisbury or Dover to find an installer though. And our prices are pretty low because we do so much volume.

That’s not bad at all, certainly way cheaper then bumping up another whole trim level, especially when the seats are really all I want. I doubt there’s anyone in Dover, but there may be a place down in Salisbury. Good to know its a viable option.
